Dalbeattie Riding of the Marches Pop-Up Shop

As part of our ongoing fundraising efforts for Dalbeattie Riding of the Marches 2026, the committee hosted a community pop-up shop across the 24th, 25th, 27th and 28th April 2026 and what a success it was.
Originally planned as a smaller fundraiser, the event quickly grew thanks to the incredible generosity of local people, with so many donations received that we decided to extend the shop for additional days.
A very special mention must go to Joyce, who truly became our “shop queen” throughout the event. From organising donations and setting up displays to welcoming customers and helping run the shop day-to-day, Joyce worked tirelessly and did an absolutely fantastic job.

Across the four days, the pop-up shop raised approximately £200 towards the Riding of the Marches. We would also like to give a huge thank you to Birchvale Theatre for kindly allowing us to host our pop-up shop there. Community support like this makes a huge difference to local groups such as ours and is greatly appreciated.

Even after the event ended, we still had a large number of donated items remaining, so Chairperson Hayley, alongside committee members Claire and Andrea, took the remaining stock to the car boot sale at Park Farm, Dumfries on 10th May 2026 to continue fundraising efforts.
It quickly became a full family effort, with Claire and Andrea’s families lending a hand throughout the day — including our Junior Lad, Orlando, who it turns out is a pretty talented salesman.

More than anything, events like these remind us what Dalbeattie Riding of the Marches is really about. While we are building a community organisation rooted in local history and tradition, we are also building friendships, memories, and a welcoming environment where everyone feels part of something special.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated items, volunteered their time, visited the shop, made purchases, or supported us in any way. Every contribution helps us continue creating a new tradition rooted in Dalbeattie’s heritage.

Safe Oot, Safe In.
